Striving for an elegant user experience

I ran across a quote from Edward Tufte recently (data scientist at Yale and a pioneer of data visualization).

"Design isn't crafting a beautiful, textured button with breathtaking animation. It's figuring out if there's a way to get rid of the button altogether."

The same thought can apply to words.  It's just as important to know what doesn't need saying.  And, to know when to stop.
